Ibis Reproductive Health, in collaboration with Ipas Africa Southern Region, AMAZE.org, Accountability International, Sonke Gender Justice, the Sexual and Reproductive Justice Coalition (SRJC), the mmoho Campaign, SECTION27, came together to commemorate International Safe Abortion Day (ISAD) on 28 September 2024 through a march. The purpose of the march was to advocate for safe, high-quality abortion care and reproductive justice for all. Participants of the march provided the public with information on safe and legal abortion facilities by placing QR-coded stickers over posters advertising illegal abortion services.

The march, held at Constitution Hill in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, an important anti-apartheid landmark in South Africa, saw women, girls and men raise their voices in song and speech, advocating for their reproductive health and rights.

Victoria Satchwell, from Abortion Support South Africa, gave a commencement speech and highlighted in simple and accessible language, the process of abortion, and the approved medication for abortion in South Africa.

Representatives from Ipas Africa Southern Region, Y+South Africa, and Sonke Gender Justice shared their messages of support for the event, encouraging young people to seek safe avenues to terminate their pregnancies and advocate for their reproductive health and rights.

The march was attended by over 150 young people from all over Gauteng, South Africa. It provided them with an opportunity to express their need for comprehensive information about their sexual and reproductive health rights. In addition, the young people emphasised the importance of accessing safe, high-quality, and compassionate abortion care.
